Good corrosion resistance in acidic environments
This is the most prominent advantage of SS304. The high content of Chromium and Nickel creates a passive oxide film on the surface to protect the steel from oxidation and limit corrosion and rust.

WHAT IS STAINLESS STEEL 316?
Stainless steel 316 is an Austenitic stainless steel grade with Chromium content of 16–18%, Nickel 10–14%, and Molybdenum 2–3%. This is the biggest difference compared to SS304 (which has no Molybdenum or only a very small amount). The Molybdenum content helps SS316 significantly improve resistance to pitting corrosion and crevice corrosion, making it very optimal in salty and chemical-rich environments.
